![]() After musing on the game for a few days I have far more positive memories playing it than negative and I can’t wait to pick up The Will of the Wisps as soon as I can. This subreddit is dedicated to the Ori and the Blind Forest games, a platform adventure video game series created by Moon Studios, and published by Microsoft Studios. Funnily enough, my notes on Ori are a lot harsher than this review ended up being. Once I overcame these issues I did really love my time playing Ori and the Blind Forest, in between the frustrating moments there were times when I felt so relaxed and immersed in this amazingly magical world, ending up being incredibly emotionally invested. There were only a few moments in the game that I spent a lot of time on partly down to how much I get in my head with difficult platforming, but there was one occasion in particular that I felt wasn’t overly clear on how the mechanics worked. There were times when the controls made the game feel a lot more difficult than maybe it should have been, however, I did feel like the difficulty in terms of the platforming was very balanced. But there is still a part of me that wishes it could have been crisper from the beginning. However, as I got used to it and I gained new skills it did become very satisfying to play. ![]() I understand that this is definitely a ‘choice’ and it does suit Ori’s character, but damn without the unlockable skills, Ori is so frustrating to control. But at the start I found the controls to be overly flouncy. Now I have to address my issues with the controls, and I will admit that my patience for things like this is very short…Its something I am definitely getting better with. It sets the tone so well and I do think this is one of the games biggest strengths and without it, it just wouldn’t be the same and I definitely don’t think I would have cried as much at the end if it wasn’t so incredible. This was partly down to the incredibly beautiful score.Īs I said, I’ve been listening to the soundtrack for so long, but it still pulled those emotional punches when it needed to, despite me knowing it so well. It was able to tug at my emotions from the very beginning, lulling me into a sense of security and then breaking my heart all over again. It doesn’t need to be overly complicated at all and I loved it for that. One of Ori’s greatest strengths is the narrative. However, I will admit some of these problems were solved when I ditched playing handheld for playing on the TV with the Pro Controller. There were also moments when the foreground detail would obscure so much of the screen that I wouldn’t be able to see myself fighting an enemy not to mention how small Ori actually is. There were times when I couldn’t make out enemies or dangerous terrain because it would blend into the detailed world, the distinction just wasn’t as clean-cut as other games (yes, I’m talking about Hollow Knight…). ![]() There is so much detail in the world of Nibel the flora and fauna is so lush and intricately designed, but at times it is too busy. So a year or so later, I decided to give it another go, and despite still having issues, I am so glad I did.įrom the get-go, this game is stunningly beautiful, but this is also a hindrance. In hindsight, it was definitely a mixture of comparing it to Hollow Knight and a dash of being in a terrible headspace that made it impossible to deal with the tricky platforming. When I finally picked it up, to my dismay I just couldn’t get into it. So when it came out on the Nintendo Switch in late-2019 I was so eager to finally get to play this gorgeous looking game. Since its release in 2015, Ori and Blind Forest has been on my radar due to the incredibly beautiful art style and a breathtaking score, that I have been listening to for five years now.
